Great River Energy assumes ownership of Lakefield Junction Station

Elk River, MN (July 20, 2001) - Yesterday, Great River Energy assumed ownership of the Lakefield Junction Station power plant from Tenaska, Inc. The 454 MW simple-cycle natural gas-fired peaking power plant is located near Trimont in southwestern Minnesota.

“This is a proud day for cooperative members across the state,” said Henry Hanson, chair of Great River Energy’s board of directors. “Lakefield Junction Station will serve our members on the hottest days of summer and help keep energy prices stable for them as well.”

Some construction work continues at the site, but commissioning and accreditation of the six turbines is complete. The units have already been serving customers as Minnesota’s hot and sultry weather continues.

Great River Energy is holding a public meeting in Trimont on July 25 at the Municipal Building beginning at 6:30 p.m. The purpose of the meeting is to introduce Great River Energy and its Lakefield Junction Station staff to the community.

Great River Energy also will have a dedication of the plant on August 8 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. The general public is invited and welcome to attend. A short program will be held at approximately 11:30 a.m. and lunch will be served at about noon. There will also be an opportunity to tour the plant. For more information about the Dedication Ceremony or the public meeting, call Great River Energy at 1-800-442-3013.
