Great River Energy chooses Siemens Westinghouse for installation at Pleasant Valley Station

Elk River, MN (November 29, 1999) - Great River Energy has announced an Engineer/Procure/Construct agreement with Siemens Westinghouse Power Corporation, Orlando, Florida, to supply, engineer and construct two 155 MW simple cycle combustion turbine generating units at its proposed Pleasant Valley Station near Sargeant, Minn.

This E/P/C contract includes engineering most of the power plant facility and installing the first two units for operation by March 31, 2001. Upon approvals from local and state authorities, construction on the project will begin in May 2000. A third 124 MW unit will be added to the station later for a total summer peaking plant output of 434 MW.

“We’re pleased to partner with Siemens Westinghouse on the construction of the Pleasant Valley Station,” says Tim Steinbeck, Great River Energy project manager. “Their reputation is excellent and we have confidence they can meet the stringent schedule we’ve set.”

“Siemens Westinghouse appreciates Great River Energy’s vote of confidence in our technology and project execution capability,” said Brian Sinn, Siemens Westinghouse project manager. “We look forward to working with Great River Energy to achieve the successful delivery and operation of the plant.”

The two 155 MW simple cycle V84.3A combustion turbine generators were also purchased from Siemens Westinghouse. “To purchase the units from Siemens Westinghouse and then have them also install and test them for us is a very efficient way for us to construct this plant to meet our generation needs” says Steinbeck.
