Great River Energy is not only a utility that generates electricity for our customers; we’re a corporate citizen that recognizes we can have an impact on the communities we serve beyond our business purpose.

Each year, Great River Energy makes grants to organizations that have a positive impact on our communities and member consumers. A request for contribution must be made in writing using the Great River Energy Request for Contribution Form.

A contributions team made up of employees considers requests quarterly.

Because Great River Energy serves customers in Minnesota and half of our employees live and work in North Dakota, we have two different contribution teams, each focusing on the needs of their particular communities. However, these teams follow the same set of guidelines.

Generally, Minnesota contributions will be focused within the geographic area where Great River Energy has major facilities, member-consumers and those communities in which our employees live. In North Dakota, contributions will be focused in Oliver, McLean and Mercer counties.

Recognizing the increasing cultural diversity of the communities we serve, Great River Energy will strive to reflect this diversity in its grant-making. It also will, through its decisions, strive to do the greatest good for the greatest number of people.

What’s the difference between a Sponsorship and a Contribution?

Before you apply for a Great River Energy contribution, please review the difference between a sponsorship and a contribution.

Contribution: A contribution is a charitable donation of money to a specific non-profit organization

Sponsorships: Generally, sponsorships are financial support from Great River Energy for a specific event, function or program. Commonly, our sponsorships are funds paid to any for-profit or non-profit organization for which Great River Energy will receive promotional, entertainment and community relations value. Great River Energy hopes to maximize its visibility through participation as a sponsor of an event. Sponsorship proposals that present the opportunity for Great River Energy to educate the event’s attendees about energy conservation will be given priority consideration.

If you are looking for a sponsorship rather than a contribution, please visit our sponsorship page.
