Number of Members: 2,457 More about Redwood Electric Cooperative Redwood Electric is one of the smallest co-ops in the state with no load over 150 kW. Redwood Electric and South Central Electric share Tom Malone as general manager. In January 1998, Redwood Electric and South Central Electric formed Southwood 2000, a for-profit corporation that conducts some of the marketing and diversification efforts for both organizations. Southwood has examined a number of business plans to improve the quality of life in southwestern Minnesota including high-speed Internet access, telecommunications, security, propane and other business ventures. Southwood currently owns an electrical contractor's shop and has formed its own pole inspection division. Southwood supports public power and has worked closely with communities and municipal utilities in the region. Approximately 65 percent of the co-op’s members participate in various load management programs. Co-op members have given more than $40,000 to various groups through Operation Round Up®. | |||
