Elk River Peaking Plant

Providing Reliable Electric Service

Great River Energy has announced proposed plans to construct an approximately 175-megawatt (MW) natural gas-fired peaking power generation facility at an existing site in Elk River, Minnesota. Pending state and federal approvals, construction on the project will begin Spring, 2008. The facility will provide peaking power to Great River Energy’s 28 member distribution cooperatives beginning in 2009.
